Contamination battery, first run: it executes, and it is underpowered

Job 143898. OpenStack 2024-10 against the 2024-01 control, both deduplicated. Min-K%++ and Min-K% on the base Qwen/Qwen2.5-Coder-7B; guided completion on the registered Instruct model. datasets/results/contamination-openstack-after.json.

guided completion 0 of 33 0 of 25 0 at the floor

Scored: 35 post-cutoff examples over 22 changes and 28 control examples over 18, the ones reaching the 32-token minimum (median 51 tokens in both windows). No position had an undefined Min-K%++ score.

Reading, as pre-committed. Neither membership interval excludes zero, and guided completion reproduced no hunk in either window. This is a battery that runs end to end and cannot yet separate the windows. It is not evidence of no exposure. The point estimates lean the unexpected way (post-cutoff scored as slightly more familiar), which at this sample is indistinguishable from content differences between the months.

What it changes for the confirmatory design.

  • Sample. The 32-token minimum keeps about 20% of a deduplicated month (35 of 172, 28 of 133), because hunks are short. The control has to be a multi-month window, sized like the post-cutoff window it is compared against, not a single month.
  • Scored text. Scoring the hunk with its surrounding context instead of the bare after lines would bring most examples over the minimum. Hunk already carries context_before and context_after; build does not emit them yet. Adding them changes the example schema, so it is a Stage 1 decision.
  • Guided completion at the floor in both windows means it has no discriminating power on this corpus as prompted. Either report it as a null instrument, or register a softer match (normalized edit similarity against the reference) before seeing the confirmatory data.
