Review of the repeated-partition branch: three defects fixed, none changing a committed number¶
An independent review of measure/repeated-partitions at 59f48bf reproduced both pilot artifacts,
the sizing (sd 0.014020, bound 0.017657, formula 23.95, K = 24), the admissible list and the
chi-squared bounds against scipy, and found:
- Runs past K could change the cell.
h1_over_partitionsintersected examples over every run it was given before keeping the first K, so a run past K that dropped examples shrank the cell's example set or refused it. It now reads the first K alone and scores each later run on its own; a test drops examples only past K. - The bounded reading could not run.
partition_pilot.py --sensitivityreadby_sigma_run, which the simulation no longer writes. Bounds now come frompartitions.sensitivity_boundsby a named point on the pilot's spread (--spread-target). - The simulation's cluster job passed flags its script no longer had. Fixed, and a new test
checks every flag each
.sbatchpasses against its script's parser; it found only this job. - Smaller:
chi2_quantilenow refuses p outside (0, 1) and widens its search past 10 x df (it returned 10.0 for df 1 at 0.999, against 10.83; the registered df 21 to 23 at 0.01 to 0.99 were exact to 1e-9); the calibration refuses a spread it cannot reach below its ceiling rather than capping silently; the pilot script refuses more run files than admissible partitions and treats--fixed-k 0as zero, not as "all"; the training-size and admissible artifacts will record the corpus root they were built from (both rerun once the machine is free; the committed ones were built fromwm-bots/datasets/gerrit, corpus v3).
Numbers the review found without a recorded origin, now sourced: the cost of a run is measured,
1.44 GH200-hours on average over the 24 OpenStack pilot jobs (1.30 to 1.56, sacct), so K_MAX = 40
is about 58 GPU-hours and K = 24 about 35; the calibration's trial count, step count, ceiling and
seed offset carry their reasons at their definitions; the 5th percentile in training_size.py is
stated as a choice. The simulation's sigma_run calibration draws changes from the v3
single-partition placebo's clusters, the same pool its studies draw from; the spec says so.
The fixes are on measure/repeated-partitions-fixes, kept off the simulation's worktree until its
artifact is written, so the artifact's provenance names the code that produced it (59f48bf).
