RQ1 under the registered numerics, and two registrations that earned their keep

Superseded on 2026-09-23. With Qt's automated-only examples removed the pooled reading fails (bot audit), and the change-averaged pass rested on the same examples, so "the estimand decided the headline" does not survive the cleaning (audit of this log, 2026-09-30).

datasets/results/rq1-qtfull-fp32-seeds.json. The windowed run repeated at three seeds under fp32 inference, the precision registered this morning. Same corpora, split and held-out examples as the bf16 three-seed read.

Against bf16 at three seeds (+0.0171 and +0.0312 pooled), Qt is unchanged and OpenStack sits about half a point higher, still not clear of zero.

The estimand decides the verdict here, and it was registered before this run existed. Pooled returns mixed; change-averaged under the same interval returns a pass on both organizations. Had the choice been open at this point, a pass was available by taking the other estimand, and the reasons for preferring it could have been written afterwards. They were written in advance instead, on cluster-size informativeness and on a measured false-positive rate, and they chose pooled. This is the clearest demonstration this study will produce of what pre-registration is for, and it costs the headline result.

The boundary earned its keep too. OpenStack's pooled lower bound is exactly 0.0, not a rounded zero: supports_direction reads low > 0.0 and returns False. The registration fixed the strict inequality after a pilot where Qt's bound sat exactly at zero in 19 of 20 bootstrap seeds. It has now decided a verdict twice.

The contrast is the same at every seed while the arms move. OpenStack's per-seed contrasts are +0.0230, +0.0230, +0.0230 (SD 0.0000) although the three runs are genuinely different: final losses 0.066, 0.0015 and 0.716, adapter norms 18.46, 19.00 and 18.86, and only 303 of 565 predictions shared between the first two. Both arms move together, so their difference does not. That is the strongest evidence yet that the contrast is a property of the data rather than of a training run, and it is why the measured seed effect in this setting is indistinguishable from zero.
